Mason Van Gieson
Director of Recruitment
Mason Van Gieson (she/her) is a vocalist, actor and educator based in Queens, New York who has been performing contemporary a cappella music for over a decade. Originally from Metro-Detroit (and still a Michigander at heart!), Mason is an alumna of The University of Michigan's Amazin' Blue - with AB, she served as Performance Director and choreographer, becoming an ICCA Finalist and racking up Outstanding Choreography awards along the way. She is a co-founder and Creative Director/Partnerships Coordinator for all-woman vocal pop project VICE A Cappella, a NYC-based professional collective which fosters a collaborative, equitable environment for women vocalists of diverse backgrounds to connect, perform publicly, and create exceptional vocal music in community with one another. She also sings with quintet Chasing Saturn and ensemble BLACKOUT NYC. Mason is a working actor, a path that informs her work as a musician and music educator.
When not performing, Mason serves as an educator specializing in storytelling and movement. She has brought her "acting toolbox" methodology to numerous festivals, clinics and scholastic programs around the nation, and takes pride in helping students think critically about the "why" behind their music. It is in this spirit that she piloted a first-of-its-kind student choreographer mentorship program for the 2024-25 season. She is also a teaching artist with music education non-profit Midori & Friends, bringing accessible a cappella education to students K-12 in New York City.
She is so excited to connect the next generation of musicians with the incredible program and staff at A Cappella Academy, and feels unbelievably lucky to continue sharing her passion for vocal harmony! For more info: www.masonvangieson.com
